3 - Generative Art
I have always thought about generative art but never really had the skills to do it myself. I began to think about it back when i used to create visuals for live events. I thought about how i could make what was shown unique to the show and that way only one artists would have it. Maybe the values would change on a generator changing what was created and thus creating something only that artist could have. This was an idea i had before i really knew about generative art and all i thought about was how to create something truely unique. Thankfully now, many programs exist that can have sound as an imput that reacts to certain parts of music. A couple of these being VVVV and Notch.
This piece is by an artist named Casey Reas. He created software that would randomly draw lines varying in length and direction. The art created is simple and monotone and this helps keeps the focused on the movement and production of lines across the canvas.
Obvious have created somewhat of a stir in the art community with this piece. This recently sold at auction for $432000 with its original estimate to be between $7000 and $10000. They created a complex AI that was fed with 15000 portraits and this is what was created based off that set of data. This really shows where generative art is heading and how far it has come since Maedas piece in 1992.

Path (Software 2) - Casey Reas
AI Infinity - John Maeda
This work is simalar to that of Casey Reas, but it shows a more geometric structured image with lines forming its shape. Unlike Reas, this is a static piece of work and is not a program that continuously generates. This may be due to how early this work was created and so it would not have been easy to display.
