This is an example ive used before but im very fond of what it is and what it represents.  Although it is not a direct representation of social media, it does bring up the social need for acknowledgement through like, retweets and being shared. This is something visually represented in the video multiple times. The almost literal use of common websites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook help audiences clearly distinguish the increasing numbers. The over all idea is to show societies need for approval from social media.

Nastya żerebecki - emoji-nation. part 2.

żerebecki, n. (n.d.). emoji-nation. part 2.

This is a series of what appear to be more traditional painting with a social media icon placed on it. In this example, a man is sitting on his own and therefore he has no friends, as represented by the icon. Its a mix up of traditional and modern practices creating a modern social commentary using an icon that most people identify.

Rachel Perry - Rachel is

Perry, R. (n.d.). Rachel is.

In 2009, artist Rachel Perry posted updates to Facebook every 60 seconds for the whole day whilst she was awake. This was to raise the issue of reliance on social media and the narcissistic personalities that can develop through the need for validation online. Although Rachel uses Facebook directly and not just asthetically, it is done to create an authentic piece of work using the technology and platform she is raising issues with.

EXPERIMENT

For this experiement, i decided to make some social media posts on behalf of animals.

This was just an idea about what if more than humans were able to post on the site. Obviously a lamb cant write or use social media but if some technology was developed that an animals mind could be read and translated into something we could understand, then this could be a possibility. How would animals use social media since they do not have this kind of technology or ability to communitcate over large distances.
