Final Artefact and Statement

For my final artefact, I wanted to work with the social media aesthetics topic. I created a short animation about heavy usage of social media and what happens in reality. I did not seek out any references as it’s something I thought of doing whilst working on the topic.
Mental health issues relating to social media are now recognised in America. “Social media anxiety disorder is a mental health condition that is similar to social anxiety disorder.” (Fader, 2018). The animation seeks to be a visual representation of it. Although the imagery may be exaggerated, I think it serves its purpose well. Videos have been used recently to raise awareness of mental health issues and although this is not appropriate for education, it does highlight the issue in its own way.
Aesthetically, I chose a style I was comfortable with and am used to doing. It has taken a lot of time to identify but this I basically my art style. It just serves to illustrate the animation and has no link to the subject.
Overall, I believe web arts serves a purpose. To comment on social issues and express inner feelings or interests and put it on a platform for many others to see. Art can be personal and often have some kind of value to it. Web arts is more of a statement. Although aspects of it could be used for more commercial purposes, it seems to me that it more about a statement.
