Final Artefact and Statement

Image
https://youtu.be/5q3npiarB94 For my final artefact, I wanted to work with the social media aesthetics topic. I created a short animation about heavy usage of social media and what happens in reality. I did not seek out any references as it’s something I thought of doing whilst working on the topic. Mental health issues relating to social media are now recognised in America. “Social media anxiety disorder is a mental health condition that is similar to social anxiety disorder.” (Fader, 2018) . The animation seeks to be a visual representation of it. Although the imagery may be exaggerated, I think it serves its purpose well. Videos have been used recently to raise awareness of mental health issues and although this is not appropriate for education, it does highlight the issue in its own way. Aesthetically, I chose a style I was comfortable with and am used to doing. It has taken a lot of time to identify but this I basically my art style. It just serves to illustrate ...

6. Transmedia Storytelling: YOUKU v YouTube

Image
"Transmedia storytelling represents a process where integral elements of a fiction get dispersed systematically across multiple delivery channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience." (Transmedia Storytelling 101, Henry Jenkins 2007). YouTube is a place for anyone and everyone to upload their video to the world. Certain videos that are popular end up on YouTubes trending page. https://www.youtube.com/ In china, there is something called YOUKU, a video hosting site. Admittedly, i do not know much about it as i cannot read or understand the language so it is a little difficult for me to analyse. https://www.youku.com/  In comparison to YouTubes trending page, this is YOUKUs home page. There is already a distinct difference in content due to being able to see thumbnails. YouTube has a strong beauty community that rack up millions of views where as i cant seem to see something simalar in the YOUKU page. YOUKU se...

4 - Screens and Interative Media Interfaces

Image
What we view media on has always been evolving and chaging. Moving images were displayed on zoetropes and praxinoscopes. Still images weaved into fabric. There are always new ways to view media.   Akinori Goto (2016) 3DPrint. 2016. Akinori Goto Creates the Illusion of Dance with 3D Printed Zoetrope . [ONLINE] Available at: https://3dprint.com/141869/akinori-goto-zoetrope/ . [Accessed 5 January 2019]. This zoetrope was 3D printed with lights running through it. It depicts a single ballerina and then others begin to appear. Instead of just using a series of still images, Goto uses lights to create the image and while it spins, the next series of lights illuminate, giving the illusion of movement. The movement is very smooth but it may have been nice to have seen some colourused in this piece. Holographic Projector - DSEE.LAB (2018)                             ...

7 - Social Media Asthetics

Image
EDIT: This post some how got deleted so this is a redo of the post that will be fairly rushed. Thanks Blogger. Because of this, i have this image but am unable to trace where i got it from and what infomation i had with it. Yung Jake - e.m-bed.de/d/   Yung Jake. 2012. E.m-bed.de/d . [ONLINE] Available at: http://e.m-bed.de/d/ . [Accessed 5 January 2019]. This is an example ive used before but im very fond of what it is and what it represents.  Although it is not a direct representation of social media, it does bring up the social need for acknowledgement through like, retweets and being shared. This is something visually represented in the video multiple times. The almost literal use of common websites such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook help audiences clearly distinguish the increasing numbers. The over all idea is to show societies need for approval from social media.  Nastya żerebecki - emoji-nation. part 2.   żerebecki, n. (n...
